I received a link to a number of individual video clips that covered the entire Centennial Theatre Mayoral Debate from last Monday Night. I wish I had the time to seamlessly pull together all 11 segments of the youtube video into “one.” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sr3ubV1QcrM&list=PLx1Dq5V7CWIu455QI0pKbtGLY-IsgiASw
…But I am running out of time with a number of freelance projects to cross-off my list before surrendering my North Vancouver residency in just nine days – yikes. #SustainableSeniorHorizons – here I come.
The first video features all 5 mayoral candidates putting their best foot forward announcing why they should be our next mayor. I did a little intro clean up editing on each wannabe mayor candidate that should not diminish or take away any mayoral candidate’s tenor… But I did however superimpose a couple captions over Councillors Buchanan and Clark video frames as the intent of my blog since day one has always been to expose just how convoluting, disconnected and polarized our city politics has sorely become under our mayor’s “4 to 3” Team Slate and by our other three horse trading City Councillors!
My taken aback moment was when the debate turned to the question (paraphrasing) “is there too much density in our city” and WTF: hearing Councillor Buchanan affirm: “I’m comfortable with where we are in the density that we put in and where we put it.”
Does this not suspect one to believe the Darwin Construction’s 850+ unit unprecedented twin towers horse trading takeover of the Harry Jerome Lands whereby Buchanan did not vote in favour was nothing more than a two step con job. Knowing full-well her fellow Team Slate non city resident Holly Back was going to tip the scales in favour of the project thus letting herself and our unscrupulous mayor off the hook. #despicables #Vote4ChangeOct20 #TimeToChangeCourse
In our mayor’s emotional farewell speech he highlighted some of his accomplishments, reasserting his deliberate pro-density governance of our city. Thanks in part being empowered 4 to 3 over the last 4 years and with a little extra help from his horse trading city councillors meant he could and did reshape CNV into a Manhattan Back-lot. But without the incredible infrastructures i.e. transit systems offered “above and below ground” in NY NY. #shortsightedLegacy
And with this in mind let’s rewind back to September 2017:
As Mayor Grinch’s legacy unfolds during a lunch break… crossing a senior’s path. #NIMBYdisconnect
With the advent of Mussatto’s City Councillors about to discover their fate in a mere 20 days… and in only 29 days wouldn’t it be nice no longer to be seen or heard from city council chamber’s head table…
The fact of the matter is I like so many though some by no choice of their own will not be living in Mussatto’s Manhattan CityShaping Back-lot for much longer. I will not be around long enough to see the inauguration of the new city council. For I have found a wonderful little city at about 1/3 the cost of living to retire and that will allow me to continue, (hint) elevate and broaden my innate creative talents.
From this point forward my editorial cartoon blog will only be featuring members of our 2014/2018 city council incumbents and bought and paid for mayor. After tomorrow’s blog I will also be from time to time selecting from my blog’s vault of over 500 cartoons some of my favourites worthy of a replay i.e. lest we forget just how corrupt, underhanded, disconnected and sanctimonious these seven ill-chosen despicables have been in turning this city inside out. A city council reveling in its “new norm” of gridlock, construction overload and NIMBY disconnect. Building for tomorrow while besieging, nullifying and deprioritizing its sustainability and livability i.e. social and economic wellness of “today.”
#Vote4ChangeOctober20 …I know I will as a parting gift.
One thing that has been quite apparent over the last 4 years during mayor Mussatto’s last hurrah reign in density terror is just how DELIBERATELY DISCONNECTED the mayor, his Team Slate Councillors and all aboard Horse Trading City Councillors have become. Willing to POPULATE our city beyond the wellness of our Regional Strategy Growth Targets and IGNORING our inner city restrictive INFRASTRUCTURE CAPABILITIES.
There will be NO SUSTAINABLE RELIEF from our current NDP MLA MA Transit Board for at least a decade. All that is being offered by MLA Ma’s INSTPP, TransLink and our current mayor and city council is WTF: MICROMANAGING aka MISTPP-ing its residents lifestyle and commuting habits. i.e. “You will love living in our new inflated cookie cutter condos, not being able to find residential or commercial street parking while most small retail shops wont be able to find or maintain staff because of its city’s UNAFFORDABILITY. A city whereby most resident families must make at least $100K in order to afford its livability amidst it “new norm” in: Deconstructing heritage neighbourhoods, displacing hundreds of low-income renters while millennial families exit from our shore to years & years & years and even more years of lane closures and neverending construction zones!” #CNVunlivable #Vote4ChangeOct20 #Enough!
And I am not the only one who feels this way – support is growing… checkout District’s Peter Teevan POV. #micromanaging #MISTPP https://www.theglobalcanadian.com/dnv-transportation-plan-treats-citizens-like-blight-community/
Our developer donor indebted mayor and “unelected” city clerk, new CEO and in-Epp OCP Planning Director have had more than enough time since July 23rd’s last meeting to over agenda-size and proceed to ramrod their hyper-density agenda through tonight’s expected (yawn) city council 4 1/2 to 5 hour meeting. And don’t expect the 3 remaining city council meetings to show any less mercy when it comes to pushing through the mayor’s Manhattan CityShaping final and Last Testament…. all aboard.
This weekend is your last chance to catch your breath before the onslaught of density projects by our non compos mentis density-struct mayor MASSatto. While our anti NIMBY City Planners and newbie via Edmonton CEO Ms. McCarthy are all aboard for this city council’s final push for: more density, to hell with road infrastructures – foutre de congestion traffic and let’s keep evicting MORE RENTERS for our mayor’s Manhattan CityShaping legacy.
The 10/10/10 or is it 10/maybe20/perpetuity renter bullshit is not going to attract many new or entice previous renters to: come back y’all to one of our upcoming 2019-21 market value rental projects. The below market value rentals within will still rob young families, seniors $2K+ a month of their monthly hard earned income or pension. And now further jacked-up by our NDP’s (MLA Ma) 2019 landlord fee increase from 4 to 4.5%!
And lest we shall never forget this entire City Council under Mayor Grinch’s cunning said NO to the previous Clark government’s $500 million Low Cost Housing Program that the City of Vancouver and the District mayor’s “welcomed.” Now these same reprobates are saying in an election year: “low income affordable housing can truly only come from provincial or federal intervention” which they ALL LAST YEAR DECLINED! #CityCouncilHypocrites #despicalbles #disingenuous
Coming up next Monday night is one of the last chances for MASSatto and his “onboard” City Councillors to thwart even more density into city neighbourhoods before October 20th. And all you have to do is look in any city community and you will see without fail a “city development application sign,” to be APPROVED before October 20th! Some of these signs are only a block or two from each other. Our colluding City Council and their lapdog City Planners are “comin’ to getcha.” #vote4changeOct20
A City Council agenda that has absolutely no regard for residents who want to take a deep breath and “live for today” and not ALWAYS prioritizing for tomorrow. A city council basking in reckless over development, noise pollution, lane closures, street parking shortages, failing road infrastructures, businesses shutting down or moving away from our city shores. A city council hell bent in uprooting and sucking out the city’s marrow needed for the economic and social wellness of its city i.e. low income workers and millennial families. #cnvSOL
What needs to happen and what should be the right of every citizen not yet displaced from our city is: 1. Just how many residents since early 2015 forward has the Mayor, his Team Slate and our horse trading councillors have callously evicted from their homes. 2. How many of these renters found via the developer or city an equal affordable rental in “their area.” 3. How many displaced renters could not find equal affordable rent and now live elsewhere in the Lower Mainland. 4. How many have ended up living on the street, in parks, out of their cars or from: seen better days RV’s. #WeNeedToKnow #ShamelessCityCouncil
