First up on tonight’s fight card is City Council’s third and final bylaws reading at 2601 Lonsdale by Pezzente Holdings a Mussatto campaign donor and will likely IGNORE most of last Monday night’s public hearing neighbourhood concerns over lane infringement, shrinking setbacks, street closing, taking away a neighbourhood park. But will reduce the height of the building to OCP guidelines and maybe turn it into an all rental building that certainly our low income families will never be able to afford. When it is completed late in 2020 who will want to live in this mortgage rate based rental building without ample parking. #collusion
Then at 7 pm we have the first Public Hearing for 230-232 East 8th Street (Cascadia Green Dev.) Rezoning Application from March 7th moved by “Councillor Keating and of course seconded by Councillor Buchanan.”… to permit the development of a six 3-storey townhouse units including 4 accessory lock-off units – imagine that. #maximumOCPpollution
Then after a short recess the 2nd Public Hearing will address the multi-rise development at 151 East Keith in Victoria Park. Proposing to permit the development of 3 infill residential buildings, consisting of 40 residential rental units, in addition to the “existing tower” and decreasing setbacks from 25 ft. to an UNPRECEDENTED 5 ft.! And further requesting/reducing parking from 0.75. down to 0.70!… Where I’m thinking a community name change is in order, something more apropos like: Manhattan Park-N-Lot #DensityPollution
The first public hearing meeting and from both sides of city chambers became an unexpected, gut wrenching emotionally moving representing cannabis users from across the lower mainland ALL dependent on our city’s “illegally run medicinal cannabis dispensaries.” The public hearing was to be only about “defining and prohibiting the sale and production of non-medical retail cannabis in all (city) zones.” But it turned into anything but, with so many expressing how cannabis is a necessity – part of their daily lives. And WHY does the camera coverage NEVER show the distress in their faces in the advent of these cannabis outlets being shut down – SHAME on you mayor for this obstinate and faceless omission! #420
Here is a sampling in the overwhelming support of these dispensaries remaining open, having chosen cannabis as “their medicine”… #cannabisOurMedicine
The second public hearing dealt with the ongoing farce at 2601 Lonsdale Ave, aka Mussatto City Planners/Pezzente Holdings vs. the neighbourhood residents that did not get underway until past 9:30 pm. With 35 signed up to speak it indeed lived up to its “12:30 am” disposition with the developer and his GBL Architects submitting minor tweaks i.e. basically the SAME DRAWINGS declaring them as REVISIONS while their fellow developer friends and a realtor supported this egregious overtake favouring 26 Ave. road closure, insufficient parking, eliminating the existing greenspace and FALSELY providing erroneous traffic flow numbers at that intersect contrary to ICBC records. And with Councillor Keating who resides in the neighbourhood, culpable and unwilling to excuse himself from “his neighbourhood project” i.e. A standard Mussatto Team Slate practice – anybody surprised so far! #shamefull
Another contention in all this is how slanted and flagrant the camera coverage was during this portion. It seemed deliberate as in quite clear under mayor Mussatto’s camera direction, Pezzente and City Planners did not have to worry about “the home audience and shut-ins” being able to SEE ALL the damning elevation/plan imagery from the public hearing resident speakers on the overhead camera! #collusion
I could go on and on in how the overall “public hearing” was apposed to the proposal in its existing convolute state. Though everyone was on side that the existing burned down apartment building needs to be in earnest replaced. But the developer, (mayor), CAO and city planners don’t want to just build within the constraints of the existing lot. Choosing to skewer legal property lines under the cover of keeping the public in the dark by not offering any “prior” media/newspaper notice! Thereby overlooking OCP height restrictions, hindering emergency vehicle accessibility, offering limited parking spaces, shutting down 26 Ave. and eliminating the neighbourhood green space! #underhanded
An astute NIMBY speaker addresses these disingenuous omissions and more regarding the farcical Pezzente Proposal. #appalling #bogus
Silver Harbour Seniors’ Activity Centre accessibility is on a collusion course with cyclists according to many seniors who use the SHSAC on a regular basis. And what is so asinine about this is WHY the city wants to proceed with this BLACK TOP BIKE PATH when city council is proposing REDEVELOPMENT of these lands along with the HJCRC by campaign double dipper donor Darwin Properties. Is it not conceivable this pathway may need to be altered, re-worked into the developer’s final pedestrian/traffic flow schematics. Or is the mayor that convinced these lands will not be handed over to Darwin Properties. i.e. The mayor and his Team Slate Collusion have already decided 4 to 3 in not having a new HJCRCentre at this location? In the meantime our infamous mayor’s Black Necklace final link will not be deterred or denied… all hail Commandant Mussatto’s dam bike legacy!
A consequence that should bare validity after October 20th city elections re: our city’s daily less than “2% cyclists.”
Mayor Mussatto and his team councillors seem quite intent on keeping “our city website” in the dark when it comes to Public City Hall Meetings. You would think the mayor had more backbone, more character, able to accept his video misdemeanors, moving past his recorded, on the record camera hypocrisies.
We will have to wait and see if tonight’s city council’s meeting will be heard and seen. Or will the mayor choose instead to pout… seeking continued revenge against media outlets – having no alternative but to protect what is left of his self-serving effectiveness as mayor? A mayor who has acted contrary to bylaw 8500, unable to uphold a high moral ground at a number of prior council meetings.
No one is perfect mayor, we all make mistakes, and like me wish I had not said or caricatured at times someone in an adjunct light that has come back and bit me in the butt. I’m hoping tonight mayor you will see the light and be the “public mayor” you were elected and can be. In the meantime on this Monday morning prior to tonight’s city council curtain call…
