Perhaps we should begin renaming the Harry Jerome Neighbourhood Lands “The Darwin I.O.U. Neighbourhood Lands” The AUDACITY of Darwin proposing such a MAXIMUM SIZED development that could (will) include a 32 high storey condo PROVES just how deep they are into the mayor’s IOU pockets; with his city planners falling over backwards desperately seeking their nefarious commandant’s approval on this project!
Read’em and Weep: HARRY JEROME NEIGHBOURHOOD LANDS PROJECT DESCRIPTION AND POTENTIAL AMENITIES: THAT my staff proceed with processing a rezoning and Official Community Plan amendment for the Harry Jerome Lands substantially as outlined in the report of the Director, Planning dated March 7, 2018, including:
– density of up to 2.5 FSR, including additional density to secure on-site amenities; (OMG)
– tower heights of up to 32 storey;
– creation of transferable density on the future Harry Jerome Community Recreation Centre site – WTF!
Is this the beginning of city management showering final tributes to their leader who will be first and foremost remembered for his “4 to 3” OCP anarchism, city parking shortages, never taking advantage of provincial or federal affordable rental housing monies. While a growing number of local businesses are unable to maintain or afford part-time help – driving business off our shore. Topped off by his campaign donor developer lane closures, paralyzing traffic flows i.e. slow motioning getting anywhere on time which has also had an untimely adverse effect on our ambulance, police and fire departments emergency vehicles performance.
Under mayor MASSassto’s regime there has been absolutely NO REGARD to the fact we are already well over 2041 Regional Strategy (density/population) Levels… much like our OCP Guidelines a FARCICAL SHAM! #replaceOCP2019
Now we’ll have to wait and see which corner office position Grinch has accepted. Could it be at Onni/RPMG or Translink… I mean really, who else would be willing to use his convolute talents? Wait a minute, oh yeah, Polygon, Anthem, Concert, Hollyburn, BCLC casinos or will he eventually end up in an executive suite on the 24th or is it 32nd floor at the Darwin Neighbourhood Lands? #WeHaveHadEnoughOfMayorMussatto
Back in the middle of last November the NSN did what I thought was a poignant “Menu” article on our housing crisis and the effects it is having on our overall social wellness and unaffordability. http://www.nsnews.com/opinion/editorial/editorial-what-goes-up-1.23101123
And after watching last Monday Night’s city council meeting lasting only 2 1/2 hrs. I could not help but sense how the aforementioned NSN article since its posting nothing as in ABSOLUTELY NOTHING has changed. The mindset at city hall continues to remain oblivious, unyielding, thirsting for more and more development superseding 2041 density levels. And lest we forget their hyperbolic contention – blaming our provincial and federal governments for not being able to kept pace with their neverending apocalyptic push beyond 2041-plus density/population levels!
A city hall turning a blind eye on its city’s social and sustainable wellness; like to date unwilling to offer REAL AFFORDABLE low income housing – 10/10/10 is a Heartless Joke when current market rental rates are already over $2,000 for a two bedroom!
And of course in our city it is not hard to trip over our inept city engineers who have turned a blind’s eye on our sidewalk’s “walkability”. Had this been a bike path…
Such is the undermining ineptness and disconnect that is consuming, eroding and diminishing our skilled work force and loss buying power generated by our seniors, low income and young families. A city unaware its future is today on life-support with no mythical saviour in sight… unless you believe in mystical screensavers or this inglorious city slicker. #CNVSOL
“There are men running governments who shouldn’t be allowed to play with matches” – Will Rogers
Like our mayor loves to toot: “Welcome to North Van,” proudly building affordable rental housing while penny pinching low income rental housing. Though this Sundance Airbnb bad behaviour is somewhat last week’s news, I am getting no shortage of people crying foul, up in arms in just how UNAFFORDABLE our city is for far too many and how it is negatively impacting small business when it comes to maintaining staff and the overall social wellness of our city. And it is only going to get much worse! And lest we forget the hundreds of displaced Mussatto Team Slate city renters for the sake of so few willing to pay mortgage rate rentals.
Our infamous Mussatto Team controlled/bloc city council has created over the last three years going on four a zealot, no turning back policy against common sense development while shrinking the wellness of our green spaces. But we do have over $20 million worth of unwarranted BLACK NECKLACE bike lanes that less than 2% of our population will ever use. #UnaffordableHousing #CNVSOL #MortgageRateRentals
A year ago I ran a similar blog, and it is as fresh today as it was last February. Nothing has changed when it comes to our mayor staying the psycho-ling course; steadfastly obedient and accordant for SO FEW winter cyclists. After all his derelict legacy is dependent on it. #CNVSOL
Another pet peeve of mine is Monday’s Agenda is not posted much before Friday noon. Releasing a city council agenda with only hours before a weekend is just one more example of the mayor and City Clerk unable or is it unwilling to deliver an agenda until the very last inauspicious minute. And if their excuse is there’s just not enough time to prepare prior to a city council meeting; then may I suggest any upcoming relevant agenda be prepared/discovered one full week prior. Allowing everyone time to study, digest and prepare for that upcoming city council meeting… I know this is OMG blasphemy – but only until October 20th – 34 weeks from tomorrow.
With so little new business being offered by city council since the new year, one should wonder “what’s going on.” Could it be we really have run out of real estate and all that is really left for our mayor’s “Grinch” legacy is where to put his campaign IOU Tom Nellis’ and BCLC’s casino. But just where do you put it with so few options left available… maybe for starters one of the following options: “A” or “B”.
And lest we forget the casino has already been democratically knocked out in a 5 to 2 decision in a 2015 city council meeting. The overturning of a defeated casino can only further seal our mayor’s Napoleonic infamy – his “I.O.U. Waterloo.”
And keep in mind wannabe mayor Linda Buchanan was one of the city councillor’s who changed her vote, largely because the new proposal isn’t related to the Shipyards or any other public (Presentation House) lands. Buchanan: “The previous application was very specifically wanting to go on public property and we were very adamant, and I’m still very adamant, I would not support anything being on our waterfront.” Thereby this option is not in the cards for councillor Buchanan who received a campaign donation from Pinnacle aka RPGM De Cotiis family and K&T Properties Tom Nellis and from oh so many more developers she indebted herself. http://contributions.electionsbc.gov.bc.ca/pcs/lepublished/100122857.pdf
And how could I not… move over “rap crap”
“The people have spoken”… well actually NSN publisher Kvarnstrom only a few people weighed in on your Readers Choice Awards. And when it came to choosing a favourite North Shore mayor I and others would like to see the beef, “the ballots,” a breakdown in how many out of 5,500 actually did vote for a mayor. i.e. How many of the supposed 5,5oo cast ballots were there for each NS mayor and keep in mind DNVC has a much larger population. I guess DNVCites dislike their mayor more than I thought, or did they like myself and others frankly could not elect a favourite mayor from your NSN Readers Choice Awards… And why did you choose a very outdated waterfront/skyline at the bottom of your pg. 4 The People Have Spoken babble – did it have to meet mayor Mussatto’s approval?
StatCan data shows overall North Shore Tri-City population in 2016 at 181,506! And for conservative argument sake let’s bring down that number to anyone aged 18 and over to 100,00-ish potential voters. And ignoring the fact that both the larger papa bear DNVC and mama bear CNV populations are going through since the end of 2017 exponential and unprecedented growth! http://www.nsnews.com/news/statcan-data-shows-north-shore-population-slightly-up-1.9771546
The real winners in the Readers Choice Awards was of course NSNews MILKING WINNERS in placing quarter, half to full page ads in the their paper: “CHA-CHING!”
WARNING: Anti high density/commuter burdened voter’s beware come October 20th! For the votes the mayor received in this dubiously bias readers poll highlights just how aggressive and determined local city staffers, HUB cyclists and socialites are in their support in wanting wannabe councillor Buchanan to be their next psycho-ling, pro density mayor, currently hiding under the mayor’s inglorious coattail.
The good news in all this is the NSN Willy Wanka
Choice Awards did not offer the obvious 4th choice in the favourite mayoral category: “none of the above” which would have been an overwhelming first choice for most on the North Shore. #NoneOfTheAbove #WillyWankaAwards
So should we be renaming our BC Family Day to something a little closer to reality like: “Family Day Losses” or as a senior couple bluntly put it to me “Family Separation Day.” Having agonized over their son’s family move off our shores just before Christmas, no longer willing to fork out a rent increase to $2,200 a month and offering only: “if-you-can-find-close-by” street parking! As our mayor loves to toot: “Welcome to North Van”
Our city under the Mussatto regime has absolutely no conjoining developer working with the city to help alleviate our low income housing crisis – unlike in DNVC and Vancouver City. Leaving it completely up to the Federal and Provincial governments to deal with “a problem aided and abetted by our mayor and his Team Buchanan, Keating, Back Councillors.” Zealots who with their”4 to 3″ CONTROL over city council have been gleefully increasing city density beyond 2041 Regional Strategy Targets ! While developers in a glutton free housing market have been able to price our city out of new low income housing market! #CNVSOL #WelcomeToNorthVan
