City Hall and Council must be damn sure existing pre-election sign bylaws are bullet proof and will not fall prey to any lawsuit challenges.

I’m still hearing depending on which way the wind blows that there could be a possible BC court challenge to our pre-election sign bylaws referencing #6363.  Surely our mayor, city councillors, City Clerk and city legals would not ordain pre-election sign bylaws that would not stand the test of time especially in a BC courtroom.

I am assuming they all think pre-election sign bylaw #6363 is in fact emphatically legal down to its very core and any challenge would be held in contempt.  I mean why else would the mayor and ALL city councillors vote unanimously to uphold pre-election sign bylaw #6363?… hmm

… Unless they do not think anyone would dare spend the time or money taking the city to court.  Realizing if the case did reach the courts the October 20 civic election will have come and gone – game, set, match – catch us next time around?  And thereby their jurisprudence can never be questioned come re-election night.  #despicables?

You can’t have one: a ‘new Harry Jerome’ without leasing out the other: ‘HJ Lands’… but I thought this agenda was about opting in or out for a casino?

As Councillor Rod Clark would say “w-w-e-ell…” I thought this agenda was to be about opting in or out having a city casino.  Boy was I ever wrong after doing my video composite in using casino only related dialogue from our city chamber’s head table.  The “Amalgamation Study – Taking The Next Steps” had very little to do if council was in favour or not in favour in having a casino.  Rather it had a lot more to do with how to pay or how not to pay for the new Harry Jerome proposed MegaSportsDome verses the mammoth Darwin development’s leasing jackpot potential.  #CasinoBust

Councillors Bell & Clark who are in favour of the en masse Darwin Lands Development subsidizing their $200 million MegaSportsDome and lest we forget the 2021 contingency overruns and annual operational costs uh, forgot to mention or they did not know that the Darwin Properties current “master plan” will require WTF: “8 years of density polluting construction!”  #NIMBY!  #howDareYou!

As it turns out, of the 26 minutes spent on Monday night’s casino study, I could only find approximately “4 minutes” of actual dedicated, identifiable casino language.  Again most of the time was spent haggling over how to pay for the new $200 million Harry Jerome Rec Facility or wanting in on the Darwin development scale and services to be appropriated on “our” cha-ching city’s leased land.  #electionDealBreaker

Monday Night’s OK Corral Meeting had its gun slinging moments – much to our mayor’s chagrin…

It was quite the roller coaster ride on many agenda fronts during Monday Night’s fight card.  The believed sign bylaw “6363” having constitutional infractions went unchecked.  And of course of course Mussatto’s developer pal Pezzente got their way with Mussatto’s infamous Team Councillors voting 4 to 3 in favour of all Pezzente could ever hope for by way of rezoning amendments to rescinding zoning bylaws that got in the way of their project like closing off 26 street access to Lonsdale Avenue and much larger building footprint.

In attendance sitting in the press box seat was the “pro amalgamation” NSNews reporter.  One can only hope after he listened to the many cons, comparing apples to apples when it came to mill rates and property taxes to comparing our city’s many “compact condos” verses the District’s mostly single spread out home property values and their higher infrastructure costs including maintaining 5 fire halls to our “one”.  It should be interesting in reading how the NSNews “spins” their heavy-handed one-sided District Bolshevik uprising or comes clean and concedes their “amalgamation revolution failed” – don’t hold your breath.

City Council voted “5 to 1″ (Bell opted #1)” x-naying any further amalgamation study talks – period!  More on this in Friday’s video amalgamation multi composite.  #shouldBefun

City Council also voted down any further casino and lottery terminal discussions which also prevented Mr. Epp’s pin the casino tail NIMBY site location options by a majority rule “5 to 2”, with mayor Mussatto and councillor Keating looking from the outside in.

And now to my Wednesday’s blog main event whereby mayor “G.” Mussatto put on his little Napoleon hat and proceeded to inform us all he has every right to bring back Starlight’s Victoria Park defeated development for reconsideration.  Nothing had changed outside of moving from our 10/10/10 policy to 20 units at 10% under 2021 market value rates and in perpetuity.  Further WTF: Councillors Bookham and Clark pointed out that only the mayor and councillor aka NDP President Keating had advance notice of this better late than never change in heart i.e. they were unaware of this “lobbying change” – invalidating five city councillors!  Our mayor’s backroom despicable antics is showing no signs in letting up forever contravening city council decorum.  #despicable

But thank you Councillors Bookham, Clark, Bell and yes councillor Holly Back for standing your ground not backing down from this seemingly underhanded, slight-of-hand horse trading.  Yet still councillor Buchanan was on-side with the mayor and Keating with logic I am sorry, just cannot comprehend – maybe you can.   #crazyTalk

Being Mayor for this city isn’t easy… or is taking “no an option” when it comes to a development previously turned down at a previous city council meeting. Autocratic “4 to 3” politics trumping democracy every time under Commandant Mussatto’s regime.

Wonder why Darrell “G” concludes: “it isn’t easy being mayor here” in a city he has “CityShaped” via his “4 to 3” Team Slate Hijackers, city planners and campaign investors.  Having fornicated our city’s density beyond any skyline recognition.  An en masse out of control density that is the root cause of our commercial and residential street parking shortages, inner city traffic congestion, construction lane delays, unaffordable rental housing, businesses unable to find and keep dependable affordable staff.

All this to some degree could have been avoidable if only our infamous leader, his Housing Action Team and City Planners had taking advantage of the previous BC Liberal Government’s $500 million low rental housing grant like the District and Vancouver City did.  #cnvSOL

Within tonight’s 525 page agenda we are about to break the law right off the top with the mayor and councillors yea-ing to: “Sign Bylaw, 1992, No. 6363, Amendment Bylaw, 2018, No. 8644”  Want proof: https://www.canlii.org/en/bc/bcca/doc/2012/2012bcca394/2012bcca394.html?searchUrlHash=AAAAAQAhUHJlLWVsZWN0aW9uLCBnb3Zlcm5tZW50IHNwZW5kaW5nAAAAAAE&resultIndex=4

Another key and oh so hypocritical agenda item is 19 in part: “The Amalgamation Study Options” whereby “the District adheres to its legislated growth targets under the Regional Growth Strategy and that those targets are not met by shifting legislated growth targets into the current boundaries of the City.”  WTF!  Our city led by Density Darrell, his Team Slate Councillors and freshman Planning Dir. Epp who has in a recent HJ Lands Town Hall Meeting “REPUDIATED” the Regional Growth Strategy Levels – daringly pushing density onward and upward beyond CNV RGS 2041 levels!  #ScrewRegionalGrowthLevels

I could lean toward Option One: REFOCUS ON CITY RESIDENTS’ PRIORITIES AND INTERESTS or Option Three: DO NOT PURSUE AN AMALGAMATION STUDY AT THIS TIME.  As Option Two: PROCEED DIRECTLY TO TERMS OF REFERENCE FOR AN AMALGAMATION STUDY.  We see The District by their own admission affirm: ‘‘The ‘cost savings’ rationale for a reunification is tenuous at best. ”#CNVunitedWEstand

And from here we go right smack into Agenda Item 20: GAMING & CANNABIS REVENUES – OPTIONS FOR CONSIDERATION.  I mean what could possibly go wrong having a “NIMBY casino” that will attract money laundering while patrons can smoke pot, liquor-up and gamble away their rent/mortgage cheque or car payment rolling snake eyes.  It is a much larger and more serious problem than casinos and their supporters (BCLC) want you to ever know.  #NoCNVcasino

It’s a fact Jack – Casino patrons draw money away from other entertainment establishments, potentially jeopardizing other sectors of the local economy and the jobs within them.  But if your Harry Jerome Darwin Lands Development or new HJ MagaSportsDome is “cash strapped”… well BCLC and K&T Gaming who was a big time 2014 Mussatto campaign spender… you have just hit the North Van City jackpot!  #MoneyTalks

It’s going to be a long night, lots and lots of pro developer zoning amendments, and new development startups proposed, and WTF!  Reconsideration of 151 E Keith (Victoria Park) which was “voted down” at Council on April 23rd…  Could it be councillor Back is OMG reneging on her word and is about to renew her “Team Slate Vows!”  Mussatto’s Team Councillors and his inept city planners can never accept NO as the final answer on any NIMBY development!

Bring energy bars and water if you got-em… (and go Jets go!)

TransLink’s Second Phase Expansion SHUNS North Shore!

Translink feels all we need “to hold us over” on yonder North Shore is a couple more buses and one more scheduled seabus during peak hours…. sounds fair if you live in Surrey or looking for a new rail transit extension from Broadway to UBC.  #ScrewNorthShore

NOW that we know the North Shore is not a priority with the Translink brass and with traffic and commuter congestion at an all time precedent high.  Our transportation problems can only IMPLODE then EXPLODE since Translink will not be seriously addressing our dire transportation issues until MAYBE Phase 3 – ten years from now!

Our North Shore cities (especially CNV) must STOP all new “proposed” high rise development like: Darwin’s HJ Lands as we now know is SHORT ON CASH and “is going to take WTF 8+ years to complete!”  A project strongly opposed during the last Town Hall Meeting.  A development in total disregard to OCP zoning height restrictions and will further handicap our traffic woes, increase street parking shortages and further contribute to our city bus overloads – all in the name of North Van Fornication.

Same holds true re: $160+ million HJ MegaDome that will take 3+ YEARS to complete and will be SHARING 23rd Street with Darwin’s en masse development!  #RenovateHarryJeromeRecCentre  #ItCanBeDone

We are running low on green spaces, trapped in traffic gridlock all day amidst TransLink shortcomings!  #NoNorthShoreReliefInsight

We are in a transportation crisis on the North Shore – Translink and our NDP parliamentary secretary responsible for TransLink MLA Ma seemingly could care less… and the same can be said about our infamous mayor & his subordinate city planners!  The Translink Phase Two Investment Plan has very little to offer in the way of transportation relief on the North Shore!  #NothingWillChange  #NorthShoreSOL

Mural, mural on City Hall Wall…

Last Monday night on cue: mayor Mussatto and his empowering autocratic Team Slate Hijackers once again by a 4 to 3 shoot-out win; defended and supported one of their IOU campaign investors er donors aka Pezzente Holdings.  Once again these 4 despicables IGNORING, turning their backs on the strong neighbourhood opposition to this project in its current state.  Championing the unnecessary closure of 26 St. west at Lonsdale Ave, loss of green park area and applauding Pezzente’s erroneous traffic survey backed by our subpar City Planner’s insidious endorsement of this burgeoning apartment complex beyond the footprint of the existing legal property lines.  #Collusion  #Betrayal

“Where and How” mayor you have been failing is: every time one of “your” campaign investor’s comes to the plate at city hall, they get to hit a seamless grand slam.  In conjunct with city planners enabling ability to amend and hit rezoning bylaws out of our city’s OCP ballpark while REPUDIATING Regional Growth Strategy Targets #Shame!

Thus the impetus behind today’s cartoon… I have had enough!  On October 20th say NO to wannabe mayor Linda Buchanan, we need not a devoted Mussatto Team Slate player continuing his psycho-ling path, density agenda!  #Enough!

OMG! Thanks to Councillor Holly Back the Victoria Park Project at “151 East Keith Rd” has been DEFEATED!

First and foremost a minute of silence re: North York Finch & Young fatal tragedy, the loss of 10 lives and the many injured, offering my deepest condolences and support to surviving families.  #TorontoStrong

And thank you Councillor Holly Back for LISTENING to your Victoria Park Neighbourhood along with of course councillors Bookham, Bell and Clark – all voting “nay!”  All seeing through this flawed project – surreptitiously allocating a mere 4 below market rate rentals for seniors.

Yes we need low income housing rentals for seniors and for too many low income families who have been evicted from their rental units.  But at what price, this is not the way to address low income rentals at the expense of lost green space, sunlight and in-your-face townhouses 5 feet from the sidewalk, hovering over one of our Green Necklace Gems!  And NEVER to be confused with mayor Mussatto’s Green Black Necklace!

And SHAME on our City Planners led by Mr. Epp for even “allowing” these offensive setbacks and green space injustices.  And SHAME on mayor Mussatto and Councillor Keating both propping 5 foot set backs as the new precedent norm and cloths closets as the new precedent whereby residents can “only store”  their winter tires, baby carriages and camping gear next to their favourite suit or dress!…  And by the way wannabe mayor Buchanan, you may have been able to keep your baby carriage out in the hallway in your apartment building back in the day… but today the NORM according to city fire regulations is PROHIBITED.  Also not fully addressed was “updating handicap code accessibility” to the existing tower front entrance, nor addressing “handicap scooter turning ratios” within the proposed town house units.  #ShamelessPrecedents

Wrapping up the public hearing the mayor did admit that his deepest regret will be not supplying enough affordable housing for young people and seniors.  Seemingly contradicting his perilous obsession in always bending over backwards in accommodating his campaign investors wishlist’s while making a complete mockery out of our toothless OCP and FOREVER CHANGING rezoning bylaws favouring developers and not NIMBY concerns.  Subsequently leaving us with TOO MANY NEW MARKET VALUE STOCK RENTALS further driving low income and young families off our unaffordable shore.  Adversely effecting more and more small businesses unable to maintain full/partime staff.

Our mayor wants to know WHERE are we going to find affordable housing in this city if not at this Victoria Park development.  The WHERE your worship should have started back in 2015/6 by NOT fast-tracking so many UNPRECEDENTED demo-evictions – displacing countless long time residents, seniors and young families.  And as you heard tonight one person/family having to now resort living out of their vehicle.  This proposed building WOULD NOT HAVE HELPED any senior or young family TODAY.  They would have had to wait 2 LONG YEARS for the completion of these town houses – so off our shore they will continue to go.

…And then there is the upcoming Harry Jerome Neighbourhood Lands Town Hall –
April 26, 2018- 5:30 – 8:30 PM
2121 Lonsdale Avenue, North Vancouver – 5th floor
