With Mussatto’s Team Slate closing in on its last couple months of rule… they are certainly going out in one hell of a last minute pro Hollyburn density rush. Is there any city in the lower mainland that has been so deliberately turned upside down by a city council, willingly ignoring and opposing city residents concerns over their unprecedented high rise charge to their fatal finish line. #NIMBYdisconnect
Their intent has been quite clear: “screw NIMBY neighbourhood concerns,” “ignore Regional Growth Targets,” “making damn sure our OCP is developer compliant,” “build black necklace bike paths for the less than 2% who cycle to work year round,” “believe TransLink will eventually resolve most of our commuter congested problems over the next decade. – If you believe that, I have a bridge I can sell you dirt cheap.” And of course “making it extra difficult for businesses to find & maintain employees who can’t afford our gentrified city,” and “limit commercial and residential street parking.” Signed, sealed and delivered by Mussatto’s engineered 2014 CityShaping City Council. #Vote4ChangeOct20
And of course how could I not…
Re: Anthem’s new 225-unit faulty rental tower… are you ready, night-mayor-ish Linda Buchanan hails: “noise is a reality of living in an urban community” – BULLSHIT Buchanan! Noise brought on by YOUR DAMN DONOR DEVELOPERS coercing our communities into massive construction zones!. Distressing sounds caused by your unconscionable inability to rationalize when the sustainability and wellness of its city is at a point of no return and still all you and the rest of your fornicating city council in an unanimous decision want is to further pollute our city with more damn UNAFFORDABLE RENTAL DENSITY! #BuchananCrapola
In a wishful thinking world we could find a developer willing to build a “Driftwood Village Cohousing like Project” right next door to Buchanan’s home and instead of a little housing development next door to Mussatto’s home we could build a 25 storey 10/10/10 mixed condo/rental building and see how he (she) would like having construction chaos & noise pollution right next door for two to three years followed by years and years of neighbourly traffic congestion. Something neither one would ever allow in their “urban tempered community’s.” #MussattoBuchananHypocrisy
The good news if my coffee shop poll numbers are any kind of a pre-election indicator, we only have to put up with these shameless city councillors: Buchanan, Back, Clark and Bell? – is up to and only till the end of October. Running on a :”we need more density platform” is a self-defeating, death defying act in asinine retentiveness. #Vote4ChangeOct20
My morning CoffeeBrew crowd have ordained Councillors Back, Clark, Bell & Bookham as the “Four Horsemen of the Harry Jerome Apocalypse.” The density flood gates are forever open thanks to these four despicables. And developers will make damn sure Darwin’s “city council” approved 30 tower is the new density bar, aka height standard for all new projects north of 17th Avenue. #CollusionGluttonyHypocrisySabotage
Well at least those of us north of seventeenth like me know who not to vote for on October 20th. It is also a good reason why we should also release (if we only could) our city administrators i.e. OCP City Planners and Engineers who have embraced the new towering heights demagoguery north of 17th and every other high rise project throughout our city since 2014. Anti NIMBY’s who have made a complete mockery out of our OCP and on the record City Planning Dir. Mr. Epp repudiating Regional Growth Strategy Levels now sitting somewhere beyond 2041 population growth levels. #CityHallCorruption
And lest we forget and never ever should we let wannabe night-mayor Buchanan off the hook. EVERYWHERE you turn you are sooner than later faced with a “Buchanan” detour, a lane closure, a construction site delay or left frustrated trying to find street parking in and around every damn construction site. Especially right now on Keith Rd. east and on 3rd Street between Queensbury and St. Andrews – what a bottlenecking nightmare they are during 3 to 6 pm rush hour!
EVERYONE of these developments, including the new Hollyburn apartment project which is of course thanks to our developer compliant city hall is permitted to shut down the curb lane at the intersection of Lonsdale and 13th for the next couple of years at their leisure. You can emphatically BLAME BUCHANAN and her fellow Mussatto Team Slate that includes non city resident Holly Back. Despicables who IGNORED EVERY Hollyburn neighbourhood petition, Public Hearing and emails against this colluding project… More city resident voters you can “count on” not willing to elect any Mussatto Team Slate collusion member running in our October 20 civic election. #Enough2014CityCouncil
Over the summer I have spent time patronizing our local and North Shore restaurants, coffee shops and strolling through our shopping centres… And it doesn’t take long to notice how many store front windows have signs looking for HELP i.e. now hiring apply within. Is it just me or is there not a noticeable increase in our city’s businesses struggling to find qualified and reliable help. #NorthVanBusinessSOL
Patrick Stafford-Smith, CEO of the North Vancouver Chamber of Commerce, said back in January: “it’s time for the North Shore to get a rapid transit link to the rest of the Lower Mainland or risk facing an exodus of local employers.” A dedicated B-Line along Marine and Main should help relieve commuter congestion but does absolutely nothing for business up and down Lonsdale Avenue – absolutely nothing. And with an estimated 1,000 plus residents planned between 20th and 27th streets in Upper Lonsdale – we are headed for one hell of a Lonsdale freeze!
Rumour has it: 40% of North Vancouver business will or are considering to leave the North Shore while couriers curse North Vancouver as the “seventh circle of hell.” The future business climate in our city is looking bleak at best. There is no quick fix or even short to mid-term fix, with the damage further diecast by Mussatto’s CityShaping. We are confronted with a 3 headed monster: 1. unaffordable housing, 2. employee shortages, 3. entangled inefficient commuter accessibility to and from the lower mainland.
Our NDP MLA Ma and TransLink rep and her infamous leader Hulk Horgan are currently bolstering transportation infrastructures throughout the lower mainland. But when it came to the North Shore they decided all they really only needed was a B-Line route along our south shoreline! It is quite obvious the North Shore is not a priority to TransLink or to our culpable NDP Government. Maybe it’s already time to start rebelling for change heading into our next provincial election.
And another themed sign noticeably cropping up on front lawns for weeks on end is “House For Sale.” …hmm.
Last Monday Night’s jammed packed fight card featured many bouts with all OCP amendments, rezoning bylaws and new projects being the big winners. And now for the next 8 weeks we all get a break from city council’s love affair with en masse developments. Though we will have to all still put up with the never ending noise pollution from gravel and ready mix cement trucks sitting out in front of your favourite Lonsdale coffee shops. Shouting back and forth over the annoying hyper sounds of Mussatto’s CityShaping. Not to mention all the construction site street delays, traffic congestion and reduced street parking!
On the streets and in coffee shops everybody’s talking about the proposed Harry Jerome (Titanic) SportsPlex. But we must all keep an open mind, acknowledging our infamous 2014 elected city council has not written a blank cheque for the project… yet. Hopefully the new elected city council will downsize and have a little more mercy on city taxpayers as annual operating costs are projected to be in and around six million and city property taxes will be going up 2.2%!
Anyone running for city council like Councillors Clark, (Bell) & non city resident Back bantering a $237+ million Harry Jerome SportsPlex undoubtedly will be – swimming up stream – when it comes to voter support north of City Hall, where a majority are dead against this Titanic sinkhole. #vote4ChangeOct20
And just how did we get to this culpable Tsunami… here is my POV video composite from last Monday night’s main bout: Harry Jerome Financing Structure & Risk…
Our Metro Vancouver mayors (especially our density demagoguery mayor) must be so damn proud being the “runaway leaders in Unaffordable Housing in the entire North American Continent!” – congratulations uppity Grinch-like city council stooges! A banner that will FOREVER DEFINE & ENTOMB your infamies after having deliberately put the cart: too much unaffordable housing ahead of the horse: sustainable affordable housing!
Further substantiated weeks ago in the credible Star Metro Vancouver front page headliner: “Owning A House Now Costs 120% Of An Average Household Income”… ‘It’s hard to deny there is a crisis situation in Vancouver’ (Robert Hogue) https://www.pressreader.com/canada/starmetro-vancouver/20180704/281917363829562
Our housing unaffordability crisis will not be overcome or resolved by the eminent upcoming October 20th fresh out of the box elected city councils. It will take more than 4 years – perhaps up to a decade before Metro Vancouver’s social and housing wellness will inherit any kind of genuine housing semblance… unless there is as some housing experts are forecasting – an impending cataclysmic unaffordablility housing collapse! #HousingBubbleBurst
… Meanwhile our infamous city council will in September continue affording projects like NV Museum & Archives more money after they shoehorned themselves into a horsetrading Polygon Esplanade towering location i.e. being in desperate panic mode to find a new home, recklessly misappropriating their move-in setup/display costs. Consequentially leaving them with a $550k shortfall egg on their archival faces…
I have come to realize the current towering deconstruct state of our once unassuming enclave city is sadly well beyond repair. The social and economic wellness of our city has been flushed down the toilet in a whirlpool of perverse and deliberate over development.
It is impossible to expect our infrastructures to keep pace with the density explosion that has been fornicated upon our city especially over the last four years by our Manhattan loving density mayor and his lackey team councillors and in combine with our shameless horse trading councillors.
About a week & a half ago a fan of my blog sent me this link “The Death of a Great City” (NY NY) from Harper’s Magazine https://harpers.org/archive/2018/07/the-death-of-new-york-city-gentrification/
A definitive precursor in what to expect from our city’s deliberate CityShaping shortsightedness in 1/10th the time. The death of the city is ALREADY upon us. Our city “today” has become unsustainable and unaffordable for far too many low income families, millennial’s and even middle class. These are the very dependent’s vital in the continued economic and social wellness of our city whom have “had enough!” Unwilling to live in inflated priced cookie cutter condos or willing to give landlords $20K to $30K of their annual hard earned NET INCOME without any return on their rental investment. #MortgageRentalRates
I don’t enjoy insinuating gloom and doom for the city’s next decade, but it is INEVITABLE. From my POV there is really not much the next city council can do to slow down or reverse our unsustainable growth. Over the next decade there will be an acute en masse carryover of unfinished or new high rise startups ALREADY GREEN LIT by our current malignant city council & backed by our contemptible backroom inEpp city planners.
Our 2018 new city council will be hamstrung, having been deliberately paralyzed by our current city council’s “self defeating modus operandi: prophesying density demagoguery.” It is my opinion none of our existing city council despicables deserve to be re-elected!
Which brings me to an agonizing decision I and my wife made over this past weekend. This is no longer our Camelot and cannot consciously run for city council. The upcoming EIGHT YEAR+ deconstruct of the existing Harry Jerome Lands across the street from us is a bridge too far. We have just spent 18 months of the “destroy and build” new Sundance full market value apartment building while they displaced many low income renters from their family homes! Simply put enough is enough!
We will eventually be leaving the North Shore and moving to a town or less congested city centre that will indeed offer senior artist’s like myself, affordability and a sustainable future, it’s out there, it’s just not here.
For as long as we live here, I will continue being a critical watchdog of our out-of-touch city council and our low life city planners – caricaturing their eroding ineptness. Hopefully the new city council will not require as much satirical caricaturing… a new city council sinking in a leftover quagmire of MASSatto’s CityShaping fanaticism. #cnvSOL
