Isn’t it ironic a siren could be heard in the distance at a very key moment in last Monday Night’s city council meeting as our City Clerk was proclaiming to council by order of commandant Mussatto the Rezoning Application: 2601 Lonsdale Avenue (Pezzente Holdings Inc. /GBL Architects) to a public hearing previously in a Feb 5th meeting denied; deferred and referred back to city planning for further review regarding proposal size & scale, readdressing traffic flow concerns and lack of no more green space. Even councillor Buchanan, an ol’ vet NSN paper carrier to this area felt it needed a community concerns redress much to the chagrin of her commandant and guru – whom curiously was absent from last Monday night’s fight card… hmm. #DemocracyVetoed
Isn’t it ironic how it is okay for the artist of “Lucy” the bronze camel that does not sit on public property rather on private Onni property can be declared public art. And apparently alright for a city councillor wannabe night-mayor Buchanan to affirm “Lucy” a very finely craved single hump camel as the camel used during BC’s 19th century gold rush and not the historically correct “two hump” camel.
And yet apparently not okay for me to refer or infer the bronze camel as “unLucky”. A number of people have politely told me I stand to be corrected her name is Lucy not Unlucky. I was simply giving the camel a “nickname”, a caricature pun, exhibiting my poetic muse much like the camel’s sculptor exhibiting her artistic license. I have since gone back into these blogs referencing the controversial bronze camel as Lucy as my poetic license seems to have been a bridge too far…
Unlucky Lucy stands between whereby “facts” can be altered by boundless artistic interpretations and by detracting expressions.
“Don’t Tell Me What The Poets Are Doing”… RIP Gord Downie: The Tragically Hip
And away we go… tonight city council will be reveling: offering up MORE DENSITY continuing their NIMBY DISCONNECT. Offering MORE condo high rises, MORE highfalutin market value rental housing. All is great, empowered “4 to 3” in MASSatto Land, except uh…
The latest censure numbers have our lofty city pegged BELOW the National and Provincial Household Median income levels! And one way our mayor and city council can bring us up – meet National and Provincial income levels is by continuing to demovict fixed/low income, seniors and young families from our city. Approving and building housing only the mayor’s opulent and his 3 despicables can afford! And isn’t it ironic our mayor gave our CAO Tollstom this year a $86K bonus “Moving on up to the North Shore Aristocracy.” #Demovict #CNV47%solution
But hold on to your hat, the real main event tonight will be Councillor Bell’s two submitted Notices of Motions:
#11. Local Government Election Campaign Financing – File: 09-4200-01-0001/2017
WHEREAS corporate or union donations are prohibited for federal government political candidates and political parties;
WHEREAS the new NDP BC Provincial Government has indicated it will introduce legislation to prohibit corporate or union campaign donations to BC Provincial candidates and political parties;
WHEREAS the intention of removing any appearance of potential political influence or conflict of such donations is understood and supported at the senior levels of government, the same should apply at the local government level;
AND WHEREAS Union of BC Municipalities’ (UBCM) Resolution No. A1, “Local Government Election Campaign Financing”, requests the Provincial Government to pass legislation extending these restrictions on corporate or union donations to the local government level;
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED THAT Council of the City of North Vancouver go on record as supporting UBCM Resolution A1, which reads as follows:
“WHEREAS there are currently no limits on election campaign donations or restrictions on corporate or union donations for local government elections;
AND WHEREAS all major political parties have committed to enacting some form of electoral finance reform for provincial elections in the coming term;
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that should the Provincial Government make changes to provincial campaign finance regulations to limit and restrict campaign donations, those changes be extended to include campaign finance regulations for local government.”
AND BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED THAT Council of the City of North Vancouver recognizes that individual Council members attending the UBCM convention as delegates reserve the right to vote as they choose when Resolution A1, or any resolution, is debated and considered by the convention delegates.
12. Tax Receipts for Local Election Campaigns – File: 09-4200-01-0001/2017
WHEREAS fundraising for election campaigns is a necessity for most municipal candidates running for election;
AND WHEREAS persons contributing to federal or provincial candidates for election can receive a tax receipt for their contribution, but not for municipal candidates; potentially creating a disincentive for persons to contribute to municipal candidates’ campaigns;
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED THAT the Union of BC Municipalities (UBCM) lobby the Provincial government to allow tax receipts for persons who contribute to candidates who run in municipal elections, similar to that provided to contributors to candidates who run provincially or federally;
AND FURTHER THAT this proposed resolution be forwarded to the *UBCM 2017 by September 22, 2017 for consideration as a Late Resolution. (*UBCM; Union of BC Municipalities)
…What do you think the odds are that Councillor wannabe night-mayor Buchanan OBJECTS along with councillors Back and Keating: aka BC NDP President. Will Keating vote NAY against motions oh so similar to his “own Party’s” upcoming “Political donation BAN LIMITING corporate and union contributions to $1,200″. Including “Money Bags” Keating’s fav: “civic campaign in-kind contributions?”… stay tuned #CNVtyranny
Will that be one hump or two humps for your Cariboo gold rush mining expedition team. Unbelievable and so unfortunate for the sculptor of this beautifully carved bronze single humpback camel that does not have any relevance to our North Shore 1800’s miner’s backpacking animals – absolutely none whatsoever!
Having worked in many movie/television art departments from production designer, art director, set designer, set decorator, scenic painter and/or matte artist over a 40 year period; I would ALWAYS RESEARCH the hell out of any period piece production wanting to get it right knowing our critics where out there waiting and willing to discredit our efforts.
Lately and sadly incompetence and lack of oversight is running amuck at city hall. Much like our new Community Planning Director’s inEPPness – unable to “SIZE” Onni blueprints for a legal sized bowling alley with room for pool tables and a concession stand. That is unless you believe in Mr. Epp’s (coverup?) SHORTcomings propped-up at the time by mayor Mussatto and wannabe night-mayor Councillor Buchanan supporting Mr. Epp’s fantasia children’s bowling alley.
Isn’t it ironic the latest city hall tomfoolery/boondoggling centres around Onni’s new no earthquake ground zero green space CentreView Towers… but it does feature an inappropriate single hump bronze camel. Making a definitive and bizarre statement in just how lackadaisical and disconnected our ill-fated city hall has become!
