During last Monday’s Night’s “32 Agenda Items wallowing in 696 pages” fixated on ramin’ & jamin’ through as many new zoning bylaws, rezoning amendments was the passing of MLA Ma’s INSTPP… A wonderful passive aggressive: not today and certainly not tomorrow resolve to our North Shore Traffic Woes. Or what I prefer to milquetoast as a MISTPP: Micromanaging Incompatible Sacrificial Transportation Planning Project.
I’ll save Monday Night’s City Council’s 2 Public Hearing buffoonery for Friday’s blog… As what should not be overlooked is our four out of the six homespun mayoral candidates were interviewed on CBC’s Early Edition Stephen Quinn Show “traffic themed” podcast last week. The podcast certainly offered insight into just how proverbial contentious and artful these wannabe mayoral contenders – no holds barred – plan to be.
There were two standouts for me, first was Linda Buchanan a leader over the last four years for en masse development, renter displacement and having one of theworst city council attendance records over the last fours years swears she has definitive Fake News insight much like MLA Ma, debunking there is no way density contributes to our inner city traffic or commuter woes!
So… when your campaign donor Hollyburn completes its Marlborough 3 OCP 17 bonus floors of density amidst a strong NIMBY petition you flat-out ignored along with voting in favour of Onni’s Centre View twin towers another one of your campaign donors on the adjacent Lonsdale corner will NOT IMPACT the already heavily congested Lonsdale & 13 St. intersection where bus stop overloads are the norm coming from Lynn Valley’s bursting at the seams buses – really. Even if say up to 60% of new building residents cram themselves into a bus, bike or walk to work that still results in a 40% increase in traffic volume!
Secondly, the mayoral candidates acknowledged the need for improved “transit” access to North Van. But it was “only Guy Heywood” who took a “North Shore city bus” to the CBC podcast locale in Vancouver City. One of the few times there was no rhetoric spewing out of the mouths of the other car loving mayoral candidates… Interview starts at about the 11 minute mark of the podcast – you decide.
As I continue my blog campaign to “displace” from City Hall our pro density & horse trading councillors from civic office. #Vote4ChangeOct20
Density Darrell’s I.O.U. Legacy shall hamstring mayors forever after unless you’re wannabe mayor Buchanan or Clark. BOTH believing – you can’t have enough density! I.E. Councillor Buchanan going as far as to say this is our city’s new norm while Councillor Clark is perhaps looking for more costly bonanza sized community builds that can further quench his thirst in horse trading demagoguery. #Vote4ChangeOct20 #Enough
BOTH of these wannabe mayor city councillor records readily confirm i.e. that not only are they pro density zealots; they BOTH also favoured and supported the mayor’s $22million Black Necklace for the less than 2% who bike annually to work. Choosing to turn a blind eye on our failing road infrastructures and residential and commercial street parking shortages! BOTH these NIMBY sayers have deliberately sacrificed resident concerns and neighbourhood petitions in the name of sanctimonious hypocrisy while accepting 2018 developer dirty laundered donations. #DaylightCampaign #CampaignTransparency
And I certainly don’t want Guy Heywood or Kerry Morris feeling left out… Friday’s blog is just around the corner.
Kerry Morris made it official last Friday – entering the winner take all mayoral race. Kerry came in a very close second in our last 2014 heated and contentious city election. Which featured mayor Mussatto having his candidacy signs illegally placed in bike racks and blatantly having his staff handing out Team Slate material at city hall “during the election period.” Whether Kerry can cross the finish line ahead of the likes of Bolshie Heywood and Mussatto crony Buchanan… we’ll know in just 61 days.
We now have three contenders vying to be our next mayor. Is Councillor Clark going to be the next batter up and is there anyone else hanging around the mayoral dugout… hmm.
Today’s cartoon is not an endorsement or sanctioned by Kerry Morris. But yes I did contribute a couple 11th hour posters for his campaign in November 2014. But let me be very clear we have never discussed me supporting or working for his 2018 campaign. Choosing instead to focus on the pros and cons of each mayoral candidate from my POV perch.
If you are undecided in who to elect for mayor or want to find out more information on Kerry Morris checkout his “for a better tomorrow” website offering a platitude of issue and position themed videos and perspectives on traffic, development and business and much more like once being a competitive race car driver. http://kerrymorris.ca/
First I want to thank all those who wanted to support my run for city councillor. This was by no means an easy decision, triggered by June 18’s underhanded Harry Jerome Lands Rezoning Public Hearing and then the unconscionable audacity of Darwin/Collier Realty to release “in print’ the knowledge that Harry Jerome Lands behind Harry Jerome Neighbourhood resident’s back is a foregone conclusion!
The 8 to 9 years needed to construct these premeditatedfaulty towers and annihilation of the existing Harry Jerome Lands is the straw that broke my camel’s back. I will not spend a decade in a convoluting “destroy and build” city council SELLOUT CONSTRUCTION ZONE!
Moving on… We are only “101 days or 14 weeks + 3 days” away from electing a new mayor & hopefully six “new” neighbourly city councillors. Currently we have two insiders and 1 1/2 outsiders, Guy Heywood having served previously on the 2009 city council running for mayor… Curious, does anyone know what happened to Heywood’s drummed-up NVCAA regime? Their website is MIA.
With 4 candidates running for mayor maybe we’ll begin to read and hear a little “pre-season” mayoral race trash talk along with fireworks turfing and boasting on who is best suited to be our new leader. Wouldn’t it be nice if these four familiar contenders inspired others to run for mayor. Mayoral candidates bringing a breath of fresh air in social & economic perspectives. Especially after being held hostage for 4 long years by a city council that is developer compliant and anti NIMBY! But running for mayor ain’t cheap, same goes running for city councillor!
I left out pro-amalgamation George Pringle who has not officially thrown-in his hat into the mayor’s ring. In the last election he received around 300 votes. But it would be interesting in having two amalgamation candidates running and see who would get the majority of the CNV “307” who voted in favour i.e. twinning of our North Shore cities from the recent farcical District/NRG reunification survey.
In our upcoming election with limited mayoral spending limits and donor restrictions, don’t be surprised if at least one of our contender’s legitimacy is impaired by their campaign disingenuous endeavours. Much like Guy Heywood noted & presented at a March 2015 city council meeting… https://nvcityvoices.wordpress.com/2015/page/14/
In today’s blog I’m going out on the limb hoping most will see the historic humour and apropos sarcasm in my copy and re-worked NVCV banner.
The North Van City Voices Blog should maybe change (in the short term) their name to the DISTRICT VOICES! (much like the NSNews should change its name to NS District Rag) Re: WELCOMING the news the District of North Vancouver is making a new as in – nothing has changed – at amalgamating with the City of North Vancouver. This from a blog that says it is non-political – doesn’t take sides – really. A seemingly “pro District blog” supporting power to the (Bolshevik) District City Council over our city council democracy – promoting “anarchy” or is it a District revolution er amalgamation coup! And with a wanton District amalgamation/revolution on the horizon will we be looking at a plebiscite aka Red October 20th Ballot Box. #DNVBolshevikRevolution
In the 2014 city elections the only pro amalgamation mayoral candidate was George Pringle and he received less than a thousand votes with mayor Mussatto squeaking out victory over Kerry Morris who was neither for or against. As one fellow coffee mate gal put it to me recently “is Kerry running as a double agent”. But in all fairness he further iterated the matter needs a detailed examination which we should do. But your current “elected city council” insists nothing has changed, so what further detailed examination is necessary when “nothing has changed?”
Also on election night besides Morris and possibly Pringle running for mayor there will be at least two more candidates… “Someone” from the NSCAA as in maybe Guy Heywood who in his archived blog was all for amalgamation thus leaving WTH wannabe mayor Linda Buchanan the only one seemingly opposed to the reunification of the two cities.
Hey little sister city – it’s a nice day to start again… Potential District Coup White Wedding Unplugged Theme Song?
