As Councillor Rod Clark would say “w-w-e-ell…” I thought this agenda was to be about opting in or out having a city casino. Boy was I ever wrong after doing my video composite in using casino only related dialogue from our city chamber’s head table. The “Amalgamation Study – Taking The Next Steps” had very little to do if council was in favour or not in favour in having a casino. Rather it had a lot more to do with how to pay or how not to pay for the new Harry Jerome proposed MegaSportsDome verses the mammoth Darwin development’s leasing jackpot potential. #CasinoBust
Councillors Bell & Clark who are in favour of the en masse Darwin Lands Development subsidizing their $200 million MegaSportsDome and lest we forget the 2021 contingency overruns and annual operational costs uh, forgot to mention or they did not know that the Darwin Properties current “master plan” will require WTF: “8 years of density polluting construction!” #NIMBY! #howDareYou!
As it turns out, of the 26 minutes spent on Monday night’s casino study, I could only find approximately “4 minutes” of actual dedicated, identifiable casino language. Again most of the time was spent haggling over how to pay for the new $200 million Harry Jerome Rec Facility or wanting in on the Darwin development scale and services to be appropriated on “our” cha-ching city’s leased land. #electionDealBreaker
April much like March and every month before displayed the same Team Slate 4 to 3 compliant autocracy favouring our mayor’s developer pals at the expense of more density and traffic gridlock. When our infamous mayor says “we live in a very compact city” due in part to his inoculated city planners he could not be more dense! Much like the “District ★ Trojan Crier” aka NSN maybe we are in need of a name change like: “Sardinia”.
And on Friday WTH… wannabe night-mayor Buchanan announced rather re-announced she wants to continue densifying our city on behalf of her revered Mussatto, building more costly and unnecessary bike lanes/trails for the 1% who bike daily. Wannabe quips “Without the right leader we will be taking a big leap backwards” – so where do you fit in.
The underlying theme for my city councillor campaign is: “prioritizing” NIMBY concerns ahead of fornicating developer interests. i.e. “taking a giant step forward persevering & respecting neighbourhood interests.” Wannabe’s continued disregard for neighbourhood development concerns will be her wearing
green albatross necklace come October 20th.
I don’t believe Buchanan is the solution leading us out of the city’s log jammed density she “helped create” alongside her fellow ‘4 to 3’ Team Slate!
Without further adieu here is my blog’s top April most viewed… whew!
It was quite the roller coaster ride on many agenda fronts during Monday Night’s fight card. The believed sign bylaw “6363” having constitutional infractions went unchecked. And of course of course Mussatto’s developer pal Pezzente got their way with Mussatto’s infamous Team Councillors voting 4 to 3 in favour of all Pezzente could ever hope for by way of rezoning amendments to rescinding zoning bylaws that got in the way of their project like closing off 26 street access to Lonsdale Avenue and much larger building footprint.
In attendance sitting in the press box seat was the “pro amalgamation” NSNews reporter. One can only hope after he listened to the many cons, comparing apples to apples when it came to mill rates and property taxes to comparing our city’s many “compact condos” verses the District’s mostly single spread out home property values and their higher infrastructure costs including maintaining 5 fire halls to our “one”. It should be interesting in reading how the NSNews “spins” their heavy-handed one-sided District Bolshevik uprising or comes clean and concedes their “amalgamation revolution failed” – don’t hold your breath.
City Council voted “5 to 1″ (Bell opted #1)” x-naying any further amalgamation study talks – period! More on this in Friday’s video amalgamation multi composite. #shouldBefun
City Council also voted down any further casino and lottery terminal discussions which also prevented Mr. Epp’s pin the casino tail NIMBY site location options by a majority rule “5 to 2”, with mayor Mussatto and councillor Keating looking from the outside in.
And now to my Wednesday’s blog main event whereby mayor “G.” Mussatto put on his little Napoleon hat and proceeded to inform us all he has every right to bring back Starlight’s Victoria Park defeated development for reconsideration. Nothing had changed outside of moving from our 10/10/10 policy to 20 units at 10% under 2021 market value rates and in perpetuity. Further WTF: Councillors Bookham and Clark pointed out that only the mayor and councillor aka NDP President Keating had advance notice of this better late than never change in heart i.e. they were unaware of this “lobbying change” – invalidating five city councillors! Our mayor’s backroom despicable antics is showing no signs in letting up forever contravening city council decorum. #despicable
But thank you Councillors Bookham, Clark, Bell and yes councillor Holly Back for standing your ground not backing down from this seemingly underhanded, slight-of-hand horse trading. Yet still councillor Buchanan was on-side with the mayor and Keating with logic I am sorry, just cannot comprehend – maybe you can. #crazyTalk
I’ve been asked a number of times… do your love bird seagulls have names – not yet. If anyone has any suggestions would certainly entertain them and would give due credit in an upcoming seagull themed blog.
Re: City Electoral Signs; it has been brought to my attention that last Monday night’s city election bylaws and update re: “Sign Bylaw, 1992, No. 6363” (not the 8643 Elections Assent Voting bylaw). i.e. Limits (prohibits) pre-election campaign materials has already been contested and defeated in BC court and was found to be in breach of S.2(b) of the Charter of Freedoms and Rights! It appears campaign advertising on bike signs or even at bus stop shelters prior the six week election period does not break any laws… however it appears the City has, namely our constitution! (more on Monday) #ConstitutionalSignBylawViolations
Let the free-for-all sign wars begin!
Last Monday Night’s city council meeting was unusually uneventful and with M.I.A. councillor Keating playing hooky you knew there was nothing on the table that would jeopardize any of Mussatto’s Team Slate en masse IOU developments… #noCollusionTonight
Hold the presses! – perhaps without Keating present: Agenda items 10 & 11 re: Gaming and Cannabis Revenues – Options for Consideration were removed! Surely it had nothing to do with my Monday’s blog discourse in identifying “option 2” site specific neighbourhood follies whereby City Planning director Mr. Epp was wanting to “pin a casino tail” on one or more of our NIMBY communities without their PRIOR KNOWLEDGE.
I also very much regret letting down my fellow citizens, by not querying later during “Inquiries” WHY items 10 and 11 were removed from the slate. At the time which was not fair to the mayor or City Clerk, had thought I would only receive a runaround type answer – thereby letting them off the hook!… still learning the ropes. #regret
As anticipated all remaining related sign agenda’s – Election Sign Bylaw No. 8643 and Election Sign Bylaw No. 8644 were swiftly and unanimously approved. Running amalgamation election signs is prohibited in CNV.
What was also unexpected sitting in the ante chamber among city staff chatter was when mayor Mussatto queried his city license manager “why license fees could not remain the same.” Offering up a pool hall analogy whereby they would have to pay $42 for each additional pool table and then further asserting “we are not like other cities” and should be offering incentives to businesses to stay or come to our city. Even though the increase was minimal for most businesses going up from $111 to $128 councillors Back and wannabe mayor Buchanan are ready to commit to the “no big deal” increase. #CNVelection164days
But in the meantime… DNV/NRG Research Group: watcha you gonna do now that your amalgamation coup and survey results cannot be voiced within any CNV candidate sign, banner or campaign media advertisement re: Election Sign Bylaw No. 8643… Welcome to North Van City.
…and how could I not… still resonating in my old rock’n roll bones!
When you have an upstart OCP Director of Planning willing to OVERTURN and IGNORE city council decisive stay in prohibiting gaming facilities in all neighbourhoods! Proves just how underhanded our mayor and city planning department have all become. Undermining our community neighbourhoods calling them callously “site specific”. #thejigisup
We have 3 city councillors: “neighbourhood site specific” Buchanan, Back, Keating and the mayor tied to a financially strapped double dipping donor Darwin Properties project that will ultimately destroy and up-heave a neighbourhood with EIGHT YEARS of construction! And we have 3 city councillors: Bookham, Bell and Clark proposing to spend over $160 million on a MegaRecDome with insufficient monies in their HJ coffers!
There isn’t one financial institution in the world that would finance either one of these projects – otherwise they would have. This squandering of taxpayers money has to stop, but how I have no idea unless there is a mass peoples revolt which I am in no way thwarting, yet. A triple whammy right smack dab in the face of every city taxpayer! Perhaps the only way to stop this crafted density madness is by NOT RE-ELECTING any of these city councillors in October. #OustAllCityCouncillors
And then with a new hopefully untainted city council in place (and new city planning director) perhaps roadblocks can be set up making these projects nonviable or at least abbreviated as they will both be in very early financially unsecured stages of development.
First and foremost after the new city council has been elected, it should consider putting these projects in escrow, suspending our OCP – and maybe doing a little city planning house cleaning… The sale of cannabis is inevitable but the city’s tax revenue share will not be enough to finance one never mind both projects financial shortcomings.
And this is where the mayor’s largest gaming donor, Tom Nellis comes out from behind the greased curtain and embraces the mayor and his three despicable indebted team slate councillors and count me in: Councillors Bookham, Clark and Bell. “I knew I could count on you all to do whatever it would take in order to build my casino. …moo-waah” #KissOfDeath
Mayor Mussatto, his fellow team slate councillors, seemingly inept city planners and engineers demagoguery in the vulturous overtures contained within the “always on the bylaw mend” OCP and its ability to OVERRULE NIMBY CONCERNS! #TearDownThisOCPwall
Whatever its “Promised Land” intent may have been, it has FALLEN PREY to mayor Mussatto’s campaign invested developers; collapsing within itself, fast tracking the deconstruction of neighbourhoods, foreclosing community and heritage while shrinking green spaces!” #shamlessOCP
And what is troubling – our rookie OCP Director Epp, and his city planning depot could care less, in effect repudiating any quantified Regional Strategy Targets (RST). Renegades fornicating in solidarity en mass densification – behind closed doors! #RepudiatingRST
But wait a minute… just maybe councillor Back (running for re-election) continues to listen to the citizen populace adamantly protesting against any further towering development i.e. infusing more traffic congestion and the inevitable shrinking or loss of green spaces and further deconstructing our city’s livability. #RepealReplaceOCP #Citizens4to3
