Being a member of many an artist community for over 40 years, and owner of a small once upon a time gallery where I also exhibited my paintings and small sculptures back in my up and coming hey day. I learned then Art will always be open to subjective and objective criticism and controversy like: when it’s subject matter is presented in one light then diffused by its historical intent.
What makes this “realist camel” so argumentative and not always in a good light is because it is so well done. Leaving little room for far too many to accept this as the correct one hump camel as opposed to the two hump camel that was used for a very short time failing to live up to its expectations. Perhaps a precursor why this bronzed camel is coming under at times undignified litter and much heated verbal abuse. After all THE PREMISE our NS Public Art Advisory Committee and owner Onni definitively ENGRAVED on a plague adjacent to the bronze camel named “Lucy’ or as I like to refer to as unLucky; clearly states in fact she is one of the last camels used during the BC gold rush in the mid 1800’s.
Onni’s “plaque” leaves very little room for interpretation as it FACTUALLY PROCLAIMS this bronze camel as “a monument not public art”. A distinct disconnection between the artist and grossly misleading historical facts presented by its owner Onni and our North Shore Public Art Advisory (Selection) Committee… A perplexing bronze has been surely cast! #StachePOV #notPublicArt
Brian May a CNV disabled pensioner who uses a mobility scooter was verbally harassed from behind by two of Onni’s underlings passing by their CentreView twin towers main entrance at 13 St. and Lonsdale Ave. Onni’s henchmen were abusively accusing him for the recent Thanksgiving vandalizing of their unLucky err Lucy bronze camel. When really all he can be accused of by these Onni hooligans was his peaceful, nonthreatening right to ‘protest’ during the recent camel unveiling on Wednesday October 4th. These surly Onni thugs should be fired, never mind reprimanded… What are the odds nothing happens to these cowardice Onni ambassadors harassing a disabled law abiding pensioner… after all Mussatto said he would take care of it – sure he will. After all we are talking about our mayor’s BFF (Onni brothers) high school pals. #OnniCamelThugs
Well once again the Union of BC Municipalities during last week’s convention were not ready nor willing to concert a majority of its members eradicating corporate and union campaign money when it comes to their 2018 re-elections err city elections. And this bullshit argument that “this would certainly be an advantage to incumbents that people seeking a seat on council simply don’t enjoy” Really, in small towns and villages town hall meetings should suffice. But in every lower mainland city there is an uprising, a frustration surrounding all the unaffordable housing being constructed “at will” by bought and paid for mayors and their bankrolled infected city councillors. I think voters wont be fooled again by any mayoral or city councillor who is being financed – indebted to a developer, union or corporate “investor.” #wontBeFooledAgain
Further, any mayor or city councillor who has willingly supported this density-mania Asian invasion like: wannabe night-mayor councillor Buchanan. Will undoubtedly find themselves at the wrong end of the stick, targets, a bulls-eye for all “inner city” ignored, deprioritized infrastructures, parking deficiencies, traffic and transit congestion and gridlock! “Inner city density issues they created – not the province or TransLink.” … All the money in the world is not going to be enough to save their asses. #AssButtKicking
And I see on tonight’s agenda fight card Councillor Clark is proposing: ‘Below Market Rental Units in Multi-Family Developments’. Wanting the City to provide a minimum of 20% of units at a 10% below market rate in perpetuity. Only problem with this is in 2/3 years when these multi-housing projects are completed market rental rates will be in the neighbourhood of $2,500 to $3,000+. So how in the hell will our city’s 47% be able to afford $2,000 to $2,700 a month rent is beyond my cognizance. #NorthShoreHomelessFiguresUp
Mayor Mussatto pals Onni: “is pre-selling the upcoming 1335 Howe condominium at a Hong Kong fair for prices cheaper than if bought in Canada, while boasting about pricing ordinary Canadians out of the housing market.” And lest we forget Onni also has a bid/proposal for the lots at the existing Harry Jerome CRC and NS Lawn Bowling Club. What do you think the odds are IF the new proposed HJCRTitanic somehow is approved by city council that the old HJCRC and NSBC is awarded to grifter’s Onni.
