During last Monday’s Night’s “32 Agenda Items wallowing in 696 pages” fixated on ramin’ & jamin’ through as many new zoning bylaws, rezoning amendments was the passing of MLA Ma’s INSTPP… A wonderful passive aggressive: not today and certainly not tomorrow resolve to our North Shore Traffic Woes. Or what I prefer to milquetoast as a MISTPP: Micromanaging Incompatible Sacrificial Transportation Planning Project.
I’ll save Monday Night’s City Council’s 2 Public Hearing buffoonery for Friday’s blog… As what should not be overlooked is our four out of the six homespun mayoral candidates were interviewed on CBC’s Early Edition Stephen Quinn Show “traffic themed” podcast last week. The podcast certainly offered insight into just how proverbial contentious and artful these wannabe mayoral contenders – no holds barred – plan to be.
There were two standouts for me, first was Linda Buchanan a leader over the last four years for en masse development, renter displacement and having one of theworst city council attendance records over the last fours years swears she has definitive Fake News insight much like MLA Ma, debunking there is no way density contributes to our inner city traffic or commuter woes!
So… when your campaign donor Hollyburn completes its Marlborough 3 OCP 17 bonus floors of density amidst a strong NIMBY petition you flat-out ignored along with voting in favour of Onni’s Centre View twin towers another one of your campaign donors on the adjacent Lonsdale corner will NOT IMPACT the already heavily congested Lonsdale & 13 St. intersection where bus stop overloads are the norm coming from Lynn Valley’s bursting at the seams buses – really. Even if say up to 60% of new building residents cram themselves into a bus, bike or walk to work that still results in a 40% increase in traffic volume!
Secondly, the mayoral candidates acknowledged the need for improved “transit” access to North Van. But it was “only Guy Heywood” who took a “North Shore city bus” to the CBC podcast locale in Vancouver City. One of the few times there was no rhetoric spewing out of the mouths of the other car loving mayoral candidates… Interview starts at about the 11 minute mark of the podcast – you decide.
As I continue my blog campaign to “displace” from City Hall our pro density & horse trading councillors from civic office. #Vote4ChangeOct20
All mayor support systems on deck… if Councillor Clark is ever going to see the light of day as CNV Mayor; he is going to need the support of horse trader developer pal Darwin Construction in order to keep pace with Councillor Buchanan’s donor bank i.e. Onni, Polygon and Hollyburn like-backers. #ElectionDonorTransparency #DaylightCampaignFinancing
And it should come to no surprise that Buchanan & Back have (sob) parted ways. Wannabe night-mayor Buchanan can’t have someone like Holly on her team who voted in favour of the $240M HJ Sportsplex and Darwin’s takeover of the Harry Jerome Lands with an 8 year en masse dual towers build – all which Linda opposed. Projects that would surely lessen her slim chances in becoming mayor. Developments that HJ neighbourhood overwhelmingly did not support and on election night will have the last wordby not voting for any city councillor who supported these unprecedented monstrosities… I wonder if horse trader Councillor Bell will join Clark’s Team or will Don walk away from the political arena.
FTR: non city residentCouncillor Back has the exclusive honour in being the ONLY councillor who voted in favour of EVERY hair raising towering development in our city over the last four years!
Perhaps we should begin renaming the Harry Jerome Neighbourhood Lands “The Darwin I.O.U. Neighbourhood Lands” The AUDACITY of Darwin proposing such a MAXIMUM SIZED development that could (will) include a 32 high storey condo PROVES just how deep they are into the mayor’s IOU pockets; with his city planners falling over backwards desperately seeking their nefarious commandant’s approval on this project!
Read’em and Weep: HARRY JEROME NEIGHBOURHOOD LANDS PROJECT DESCRIPTION AND POTENTIAL AMENITIES: THAT my staff proceed with processing a rezoning and Official Community Plan amendment for the Harry Jerome Lands substantially as outlined in the report of the Director, Planning dated March 7, 2018, including:
– density of up to 2.5 FSR, including additional density to secure on-site amenities; (OMG)
– tower heights of up to 32 storey;
– creation of transferable density on the future Harry Jerome Community Recreation Centre site – WTF!
Is this the beginning of city management showering final tributes to their leader who will be first and foremost remembered for his “4 to 3” OCP anarchism, city parking shortages, never taking advantage of provincial or federal affordable rental housing monies. While a growing number of local businesses are unable to maintain or afford part-time help – driving business off our shore. Topped off by his campaign donor developer lane closures, paralyzing traffic flows i.e. slow motioning getting anywhere on time which has also had an untimely adverse effect on our ambulance, police and fire departments emergency vehicles performance.
Under mayor MASSassto’s regime there has been absolutely NO REGARD to the fact we are already well over 2041 Regional Strategy (density/population) Levels… much like our OCP Guidelines a FARCICAL SHAM! #replaceOCP2019
Now we’ll have to wait and see which corner office position Grinch has accepted. Could it be at Onni/RPMG or Translink… I mean really, who else would be willing to use his convolute talents? Wait a minute, oh yeah, Polygon, Anthem, Concert, Hollyburn, BCLC casinos or will he eventually end up in an executive suite on the 24th or is it 32nd floor at the Darwin Neighbourhood Lands? #WeHaveHadEnoughOfMayorMussatto
At last Monday night’s city council meeting the mayor was whining and crying foul how he and his team slate councillors can’t get respect during the Public Input Period… Does the word HYPOCRITE ever come to mind Grinch. I couldn’t help but take a second look at a city council meeting on July 17 of this year. And lo and behold our mayor counterblow’s his self proclaimed righteousness with his own out of order, unrulyretort, chuckling “ha, welcome to North Van”.
A few minutes prior, look closely, camera right at councillor Keating aka BC NDP President waving goodbye to Mr. Wilkinson having been ordered out of chambers by flustered and unhinged Mussatto. The Wilkinson’s were quite upset over the fact they never had been told about the city’s complicit bowling alley gaffe, having bought a condo in the Onni CentreView Camel-not complex. And Premier John Horgan, you must be so damn proud of your party’s contemptible NDP President.
…If you dare take a 2 hour flashback at that night’s fight card from the 3:32 hour/minute mark onward, listen closely to the remarks made by the Wilkinson’s at the Bowling Alley Public Hearing and by the mayor’s large campaign donor Onni and of course Mussatto’s Team Slate Despicable’s approving the Onni Bowling Alley from the July 17 video. You may like the Wilkinson’s and so many other concerned residents realize why they won’t be voting for wannabe mayor Buchanan and Councillor Back on election day October 20, 2018. http://www.cnv.org/your-government/council-meetings/2017-meetings/council-videos
Being a member of many an artist community for over 40 years, and owner of a small once upon a time gallery where I also exhibited my paintings and small sculptures back in my up and coming hey day. I learned then Art will always be open to subjective and objective criticism and controversy like: when it’s subject matter is presented in one light then diffused by its historical intent.
What makes this “realist camel” so argumentative and not always in a good light is because it is so well done. Leaving little room for far too many to accept this as the correctone hump camel as opposed to the two hump camel that was used for a very short time failing to live up to its expectations. Perhaps a precursor why this bronzed camel is coming under at times undignified litter and much heated verbal abuse. After all THE PREMISE our NS Public Art Advisory Committee and owner Onni definitively ENGRAVED on a plague adjacent to the bronze camel named “Lucy’ or as I like to refer to as unLucky; clearly statesin fact she is one of the last camels used during the BC gold rush in the mid 1800’s.
Onni’s “plaque” leaves very little room for interpretation as it FACTUALLY PROCLAIMS this bronze camel as “a monument not public art”. A distinct disconnection between the artist and grossly misleading historical facts presented by its owner Onni and our North Shore Public Art Advisory (Selection) Committee… A perplexing bronze has been surely cast! #StachePOV #notPublicArt
