Actually found myself attending the pre-Easter showdown with enough on the fight card to fill at least two jam packed ‘no holds barred’ city council meetings. But then again this is why we did not have a scheduled then unscheduled city council meeting back on February 19th.
There were a few surprised jabs and expected abject counter punching taking place during the long-winded meeting. As I said to councillor Clark at the end of the meeting. “I have enough blog content that will keep me busy for the next 3 weeks during Easter shutdown.” I’ll be featuring video Stache outtakes, misplays by the now retiring mayor and city councillors, to caricaturing the many twists and turns, including an unrealized Harry Jerome showstopper to a Lions Gate “tax”idermy new bedfellows finale.
But I am going to start off slow, giving everyone a chance to catch their breath from either attending or watching the streaming 4 1/2 hour video of Monday Night’s Fight Card…
In my opening mini-bout: wannabe night-mayor Buchanan wants the proposed and WTF: re-budgeted $210+ million mega HJCRC to integrate the Rick Hansen Foundation Accessibility Certified Gold Standard which even she acknowledged is ALREADY being indoctrinated into our latest new developments! And thereby no need for Buchanan to make such a – I’m running for mayor – fuss over handicap accessibility. Every city architect, engineer including our infamous city planners are AWARE and CHAMPION the new Rick Hansen handicap accessibility model.
If Buchanan is so adamant about disability accessibility why has she NEVER insisted on handicap accessibility on ANY PRIOR high rise development since her re-election. And WHY THEN did she last December 3rd on International Disability Day celebrate the day riding a ne-ferris wheel and NOT riding an immobility scooter or wheel chair or even recognizing International Disability Day? It should also be noted that Buchanan had been asked last fall to show her support for those in our city with disabilities to experience riding an immobility scooter courteous of Davies Pharmacy & Medical Equipment over our central Lonsdale crevice sidewalks which of course she turned down.
Based on Buchanan’s prior anti-handicap posture dealings with mobility issues just how ingenuous is Buchanan or is this simply a spin-o-rama mayoral campaign tactic… Does she wonder why I caricature her wearing “spinning” crazed glasses. #Spin-o-ramaHypocrisy #WTF
News Bulletin 5 pm 03/13: Mayor Darrell Roger Mussatto will not be seeking a fifth term on October 20th, 2018. I wish the mayor all the best piloting his new adventures. Thanks for being so tolerant of my satirical caricaturing of your mayorship.
I first and foremost want to wish Councillor Bell a speedy recovery and hope he will be able to attend next week’s city council meeting before their scheduled 3 week Spring Break Snooze. But also missing in action without any explanation to taxpayers was once again of course “NDP Moneybags Councillor Keating.”
At times I sensed there might be a little cannabis floating in the air as the mayor was determined to keep under wraps agenda item 2: Smoking Prohibition Expansion and “Enforcement”. While agenda item 6: Proposed Cannabis Dispensary “Enforcement” was openly discussed during the city council ‘public’ meeting. Beckoning the question why the hypocritical double standard? Could it be because of the television interview planned by the mayor on this matter.
The shocker of the night for moi was hearing OMG, Councillor Back unwilling to support the Development Application at 125 and 145 East 13th Street: a 23 storey high tower – until extra OCP Bonus floors kick in! Her feedback from the community and local businesses being: they are “fed-up” with all the new development going on in their neighbourhood. Wanting to see new development in their area slow down for the next couple of years. Opposing was councillor and wannabe mayor Buchanan who was adamantly in favour – wanting MORE development i.e. construction turmoil for this community.
But the highlight of the night was when councillor Bookham asked CNV Engineer/Parks/Envro Douglas Pope why he was so keen on WASTING taxpayer’s money on a temporary
Green Black Necklace while knowing dam well it would have to be RE-CONFIGURED i.e. conforming to the proposed redevelopment by “double dipping” Mussatto campaign donor Darwin Properties. #cnvSOL
Back in the middle of last November the NSN did what I thought was a poignant “Menu” article on our housing crisis and the effects it is having on our overall social wellness and unaffordability. http://www.nsnews.com/opinion/editorial/editorial-what-goes-up-1.23101123
And after watching last Monday Night’s city council meeting lasting only 2 1/2 hrs. I could not help but sense how the aforementioned NSN article since its posting nothing as in ABSOLUTELY NOTHING has changed. The mindset at city hall continues to remain oblivious, unyielding, thirsting for more and more development superseding 2041 density levels. And lest we forget their hyperbolic contention – blaming our provincial and federal governments for not being able to kept pace with their neverending apocalyptic push beyond 2041-plus density/population levels!
A city hall turning a blind eye on its city’s social and sustainable wellness; like to date unwilling to offer REAL AFFORDABLE low income housing – 10/10/10 is a Heartless Joke when current market rental rates are already over $2,000 for a two bedroom!
And of course in our city it is not hard to trip over our inept city engineers who have turned a blind’s eye on our sidewalk’s “walkability”. Had this been a bike path…
Such is the undermining ineptness and disconnect that is consuming, eroding and diminishing our skilled work force and loss buying power generated by our seniors, low income and young families. A city unaware its future is today on life-support with no mythical saviour in sight… unless you believe in mystical screensavers or this inglorious city slicker. #CNVSOL

Over our Family Day Losses weekend my wife and I had the pleasure in socializing with a number of good friends at a local restaurant. Though our conversation’s did not dwell very long on elephant crosswalk markings no one at our table of four except myself knew what these city elephant crosswalk markings looked like. Though my wife thought they must be those squirrely whirly pedestrian crosswalk designs at the foot of Lonsdale Quay/Seabus area.
We have to Twilight Zone back to the infamous December 2017 city council meeting agenda when this issue was debated, ending with the mayor’s inappropriate ignominious wisecrack . Both city councillors Bookham and Bell raised issues over these elephant markings, one being not readily identified as pedestrian/cyclists crosswalks by tourists… as well as by most non-cycling motorists. After all they look like solid rectangular blocks and nothing more. So my good interpretive graphic deed of the week is to assist in the unraveling of what city elephant feet markings look like… you’re welcome mayor.
*pachyderm: a very large mammal with thick skin, especially an elephant, rhinoceros, or hippopotamus.
The mayor and his HUBies with the aid of our city engineers will continue to coerce cycling-psychosis down our throats, realizing they are running out of time. As in just a little over 35 weeks we will be electing hopefully an untainted new mayor & city council. At which time hopefully giving serious consideration to the registration and licensing of cyclists to help pay for these daunting crosswalks and to be correctly renamed “Black Necklace bike lanes” meant for cyclists ONLY. i.e. not for vehicles or pedestrians who are paying city taxes for cyclists to have the exclusive right to these $20K+ bike lanes. Unlike these same resident cyclists being able to WTF: cycle on any and all city streets… and at times riding precariously on our “pedestrian only sidewalks.”
And hopefully our city’s diminishing cycling community (having lost many due to the unaffordability of our city) won’t feel radically inclined like this recently caught violent NYC bicycle mob smashing and terrorizing drivers in one of our mayor’s fav city’s Manhattan NY NY…
Finally there is a non partisan North Shore newspaper that is listening to the concerns of residents – kudos to The Global Canadian. And no I am not on their payroll, am just relieved to see an alternative tabloid publication encouraging and “not limiting public input.”
Even my once next door neighbour for many years Fiona Walsh now has an open resource to voice her concerns, pointing out how the CNV population is seemingly out of control, with neighbourhoods suffering from traffic congestion, overcrowded schools, and unaffordable housing. (The Global Canadian: page 6 “Change We Want)
And if our overall North Shore population is shrinking as wannabe mayor councillor Buchanan wants us to believe. It would and could be for reasons like: The many Mussatto Team Slate heralded demo-rental-evictions, unaffordable housing for far too many seniors, single parents, fixed and low income earners. And young couples like my tenant neighbours wanting MORE than just a cookie cutter existence having just bought an affordable home in Abbotsford. Lost forever to our city will be their much needed talents in nursing and construction.
From my POV: those that can afford our gentrified uppity housing prices are NOT BLUE COLLAR WORKERS. The very backbone to our city’s wellness and survival. #CNVSOL
I realize my blog at times can be quite cynical in the caricaturing of the mayor, his team slate councillors and managerial city staff. But I have discovered over the 3 years I have posted my blog that other related and more politically correct blogs and other handle-me-with-care media outlets has not advanced or had any effect on the mayor and his 4 to 3 autocratic rule of thumb. His vainglorious CityShaping vision consists of paving 20 million of tax payers dollars on failing bike lanes and surrendering our skyline to his OCP over densified developer investors from his 2014 re-election campaign. The mayor’s SHORTsightedness “putting the cart ahead of the horse” has left our daily transportation infrastructures in dire gridlock while local small businesses are unable to keep or find local part time help whom in turn can no longer afford to live in our city.
For me the most disturbing aspect during Mussatto’s dictatorship reign is the loss of so many hardworking people who have landscaped, forged our city’s heritage. Households from our once thriving lower class, people on fixed incomes, single parent families, seniors, artists and young families. Many having been displaced, evicted from our city’s shores without a thank you or ever offering temporary housing assistance – Arrivederci, good riddance eh Grinch.
But I am beginning to read and hear more voices standing up against our mayor and his team slate councillors stranglehold on our city. Like discerning voices on pages 3 & 4 “Change We Want” in the recently published The Global Canadian Newspaper. Also checkout their facebook page featuring other related stories: http://www.facebook.com/theglobalcanadian/.
Finally CNVites are standing up, fed up with all the density and failing related infrastructures, drawing a line in the sand… “enough is enough!” Change in municipal governance is on its way come October 20th – Arrivederci Mussatto Team Slate councillors!
Note the logo/badge on Mussatto’s Napoleonic hat is the iconic ‘Anarchy symbol’. Representing the mayor and his 3 Team Slate city councillors autocratic “4 to 3” empowering decision making on ALL OCP DENSITY BONUS High Rises and bylaw amendments and higher density re-zoning on behalf of many campaign donor developers.
Again… any chance for an Integrated North Shore Planning Project to have any kind of success especially within our city limits, it must first REALIZE ALL future and proposed High Rise Developments must be STOPPED dead in their tracks! A number of projects come to mind, one being an unwanted casino (with hotel?), another is the proposed too big for its britches massive Harry Jerome Rec Centre. And where HJCRC and seniors lawn bowling have been located for over 50 years is where double dipping campaign donor Darwin Properties want to add around 1,500 MORE residents to our already 2041 growth rate – enough density!
