It was quite the roller coaster ride on many agenda fronts during Monday Night’s fight card. The believed sign bylaw “6363” having constitutional infractions went unchecked. And of course of course Mussatto’s developer pal Pezzente got their way with Mussatto’s infamous Team Councillors voting 4 to 3 in favour of all Pezzente could ever hope for by way of rezoning amendments to rescinding zoning bylaws that got in the way of their project like closing off 26 street access to Lonsdale Avenue and much larger building footprint.
In attendance sitting in the press box seat was the “pro amalgamation” NSNews reporter. One can only hope after he listened to the many cons, comparing apples to apples when it came to mill rates and property taxes to comparing our city’s many “compact condos” verses the District’s mostly single spread out home property values and their higher infrastructure costs including maintaining 5 fire halls to our “one”. It should be interesting in reading how the NSNews “spins” their heavy-handed one-sided District Bolshevik uprising or comes clean and concedes their “amalgamation revolution failed” – don’t hold your breath.
City Council voted “5 to 1″ (Bell opted #1)” x-naying any further amalgamation study talks – period! More on this in Friday’s video amalgamation multi composite. #shouldBefun
City Council also voted down any further casino and lottery terminal discussions which also prevented Mr. Epp’s pin the casino tail NIMBY site location options by a majority rule “5 to 2”, with mayor Mussatto and councillor Keating looking from the outside in.
And now to my Wednesday’s blog main event whereby mayor “G.” Mussatto put on his little Napoleon hat and proceeded to inform us all he has every right to bring back Starlight’s Victoria Park defeated development for reconsideration. Nothing had changed outside of moving from our 10/10/10 policy to 20 units at 10% under 2021 market value rates and in perpetuity. Further WTF: Councillors Bookham and Clark pointed out that only the mayor and councillor aka NDP President Keating had advance notice of this better late than never change in heart i.e. they were unaware of this “lobbying change” – invalidating five city councillors! Our mayor’s backroom despicable antics is showing no signs in letting up forever contravening city council decorum. #despicable
But thank you Councillors Bookham, Clark, Bell and yes councillor Holly Back for standing your ground not backing down from this seemingly underhanded, slight-of-hand horse trading. Yet still councillor Buchanan was on-side with the mayor and Keating with logic I am sorry, just cannot comprehend – maybe you can. #crazyTalk
When you have an upstart OCP Director of Planning willing to OVERTURN and IGNORE city council decisive stay in prohibiting gaming facilities in all neighbourhoods! Proves just how underhanded our mayor and city planning department have all become. Undermining our community neighbourhoods calling them callously “site specific”. #thejigisup
We have 3 city councillors: “neighbourhood site specific” Buchanan, Back, Keating and the mayor tied to a financially strapped double dipping donor Darwin Properties project that will ultimately destroy and up-heave a neighbourhood with EIGHT YEARS of construction! And we have 3 city councillors: Bookham, Bell and Clark proposing to spend over $160 million on a MegaRecDome with insufficient monies in their HJ coffers!
There isn’t one financial institution in the world that would finance either one of these projects – otherwise they would have. This squandering of taxpayers money has to stop, but how I have no idea unless there is a mass peoples revolt which I am in no way thwarting, yet. A triple whammy right smack dab in the face of every city taxpayer! Perhaps the only way to stop this crafted density madness is by NOT RE-ELECTING any of these city councillors in October. #OustAllCityCouncillors
And then with a new hopefully untainted city council in place (and new city planning director) perhaps roadblocks can be set up making these projects nonviable or at least abbreviated as they will both be in very early financially unsecured stages of development.
First and foremost after the new city council has been elected, it should consider putting these projects in escrow, suspending our OCP – and maybe doing a little city planning house cleaning… The sale of cannabis is inevitable but the city’s tax revenue share will not be enough to finance one never mind both projects financial shortcomings.
And this is where the mayor’s largest gaming donor, Tom Nellis comes out from behind the greased curtain and embraces the mayor and his three despicable indebted team slate councillors and count me in: Councillors Bookham, Clark and Bell. “I knew I could count on you all to do whatever it would take in order to build my casino. …moo-waah” #KissOfDeath
The first public hearing meeting and from both sides of city chambers became an unexpected, gut wrenching emotionally moving representing cannabis users from across the lower mainland ALL dependent on our city’s “illegally run medicinal cannabis dispensaries.” The public hearing was to be only about “defining and prohibiting the sale and production of non-medical retail cannabis in all (city) zones.” But it turned into anything but, with so many expressing how cannabis is a necessity – part of their daily lives. And WHY does the camera coverage NEVER show the distress in their faces in the advent of these cannabis outlets being shut down – SHAME on you mayor for this obstinate and faceless omission! #420
Here is a sampling in the overwhelming support of these dispensaries remaining open, having chosen cannabis as “their medicine”… #cannabisOurMedicine
The second public hearing dealt with the ongoing farce at 2601 Lonsdale Ave, aka Mussatto City Planners/Pezzente Holdings vs. the neighbourhood residents that did not get underway until past 9:30 pm. With 35 signed up to speak it indeed lived up to its “12:30 am” disposition with the developer and his GBL Architects submitting minor tweaks i.e. basically the SAME DRAWINGS declaring them as REVISIONS while their fellow developer friends and a realtor supported this egregious overtake favouring 26 Ave. road closure, insufficient parking, eliminating the existing greenspace and FALSELY providing erroneous traffic flow numbers at that intersect contrary to ICBC records. And with Councillor Keating who resides in the neighbourhood, culpable and unwilling to excuse himself from “his neighbourhood project” i.e. A standard Mussatto Team Slate practice – anybody surprised so far! #shamefull
Another contention in all this is how slanted and flagrant the camera coverage was during this portion. It seemed deliberate as in quite clear under mayor Mussatto’s camera direction, Pezzente and City Planners did not have to worry about “the home audience and shut-ins” being able to SEE ALL the damning elevation/plan imagery from the public hearing resident speakers on the overhead camera! #collusion
I could go on and on in how the overall “public hearing” was apposed to the proposal in its existing convolute state. Though everyone was on side that the existing burned down apartment building needs to be in earnest replaced. But the developer, (mayor), CAO and city planners don’t want to just build within the constraints of the existing lot. Choosing to skewer legal property lines under the cover of keeping the public in the dark by not offering any “prior” media/newspaper notice! Thereby overlooking OCP height restrictions, hindering emergency vehicle accessibility, offering limited parking spaces, shutting down 26 Ave. and eliminating the neighbourhood green space! #underhanded
An astute NIMBY speaker addresses these disingenuous omissions and more regarding the farcical Pezzente Proposal. #appalling #bogus
Oh what a night it was, no surprises when it came to frivolously tossing taxpayers money on this and that but at least council did not include money for a new kitchen sink… maybe next week. #cnvSOL
Councillor Clark’s motion to write to the Metro Vancouver Board expressing strong opposition repealing any salary increase and pension bonus was of course and certainly not to my surprise intercepted by one of Mussatto’s perilous team hijacker’s councillor Keating. Deliberately wanting to divide his motion into two parcels. One repealing the one time, pension retro gift and the other the 15% salary – fed tax offset that will not begin until next year’s lower mainland mayors and councillors are elected. Thus offering Mussatto a much needed saving grace after giving himself an under wraps mayors’ council raise and one time retirement bonus under the guise of a DELIBERATE UNRECORDED VOTE.
Noteworthy: there was a prior Metro Van Board itemized agenda made available to the public and media. A point councillor and wannabe mayor Buchanan resonated in supporting the mayor’s account of its council’s procedural protocol regarding agenda items. Of course Buchanan did not mention the mayors unwillingness not to record “his vote.” Perhaps a precursor in just how “opaque and underhanded” Linda Buchanan will be if elected mayor in 7 months time. #disingenuous
Then with one foot out the door a new agenda item materialized from CEO Tollstom bringing forward a lover’s letter from outgoing confederate District of Vancouver mayor Walton wanting to reopen amalgamation er reunification conversations! Profoundly mystifying EVERY COUNCILLOR whom each had serious concerns, listing the many negative impacts it would have on their city! It was reiterated over and over by a number of councillors that City Council has already thoroughly DEFEATED a DNVC carbon copy motion in 2016. Having said all that a “mayor Mussatto” 4 to 3 split decision on two fronts will carry it – cha-ching back to city staff and council – UNBELIEVABLE! More on this in Friday’s “Get Stuffed Video”.. first things first.
